Jesus said … “whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again.”
John 4:14
Scientists tell us that human beings can survive for three weeks without food, but only three days without water. As we work or exercise, our need for hydration increases. For plants, animals, and people, life without water cannot exist.
What if we could have water that would cure our thirst forever? Jesus promised the Samaritan woman that whoever drinks the water He gives will never be thirsty again. The Holy Spirit, like a bubbling spring, gives life to the believer through Baptism and God’s Word. This holy hydration revives and sustains us in the desert of our earthly life. Out of the hearts of believers, said Jesus, “will flow rivers of living water” (John 7:38), leading to the river of life in the eternal city of God.
